Eric is deeply interested in how technological innovation, optimized through policy and knowledge capitalization, can be harnessed to solve the world's big problems. He is currently focusing on addressing the climate crisis through decarbonization as the Director of Technology at HEET. There, he leads IT and is involved in research including the fiber optic temperature sensing of geothermal boreholes, techno-economic modeling of network geothermal systems, and the quantification of methane leaks. He is also interested in Lake Victoria's blue economy and ecosystem health. Passionate about technology access from a young age, Eric previously introduced computers to fellow children in Port Victoria through the MIT Media Lab's One Laptop Per Child Project. As Calestous Juma’s son, he carries forward a deep, personal commitment to the foundation's mission and the technological empowerment of the Bunyala community.
