MARTIN MBAYA

Trustee

Martin Mbaya is PhD candidate at the Graduate School of Technology Management, University of Pretoria studying systemic barriers to innovation in digital learning. Martin is also a member of faculty at Strathmore University Business School focused on Public Policy, Digital Learning, Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Trade and Sustainability. He is a co-founder of Akili AI, start-up focused on applications of Generative AI

in Africa’s Banking Sector where he leads Policy and Strategy.
Martin is a Member of the College of Scholars and a Trustee at the African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS). He previously served as a Governing Council Member. He has
served in governance roles at the Adebisi Babatunde Thomas Entrepreneurship Institute (ABTEI), the Calestous Juma Legacy Trust Kenya (CJLTK), the African Population and
Health Research Center (APHRC), the Raspberry Pi Foundation (Kenya) and the Alliance High School Endowment Fund Trust (Kenya) / Foundation (USA).
Martin holds a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from MIT (2000) and a Master's degree in Public Policy from Harvard Kennedy School (2008). Martin is 2015 Tutu Fellow.
